House Reading Competition

House Reading Competition

This week saw the launch of the 2026 Prep House Reading Competition, with the focus this year being book recommendations.

The children have been given a bookmark, the colour of which corresponds to their house, on which to collect stamps. They can claim a stamp when they have finished reading a book that has been recommended to them. There are eight categories, including 'read a book recommended by an adult who is in your family' and 'read a book recommended by a child who goes to a different school to you'. Information about all of the categories can be found on the bookmarks.

We hope the House Reading Competition will encourage the children to discover new authors, genres and book series by having conversations about books and reading. The children will also find out more about the people they know and it will foster some good-natured rivalry between houses! The aim is not necessarily to collect all eight stamps, as every single stamp counts towards the collective house totals.

The competition runs until the start of next term, with the deadline for stamp collection being Thursday 23rd April. The children can claim stamps for books they started reading no earlier than Wednesday 25th February, when they were first introduced to the competition in assembly. Stamps can be claimed from English Teachers and Mrs Citron and will be collected in during form times.

There are no individual prizes available as this is solely a house competition.

Happy reading!

Science Snippets Competition

Science illustration

Are you curious about Science? Love explaining how things work? We are encouraging our Years 7 and 8 pupils to enter a Science Snippets Competition and share a science topic they are passionate about.

The challenge is simple: pupils create a 60‑second video explaining a science topic of their choice - it could be anything from space and animals to chemistry, engineering or medicine. The aim is to explain their idea clearly and engagingly to an audience, showing not just what they know but how well they can communicate it.

Entries close: Sunday 29th March 2026

Finalists present live at Tonbridge School in May 2026 with a four‑minute live presentation judged by an expert panel of scientists and educators. It’s a brilliant chance to build confidence, creativity and communication skills.

Please do talk to your Science teacher if you have any questions; we can’t wait to see the entries.

What to expect:

  • Fresh air, chatter and lots of exploring
  • Natural pathways with some steep inclines
