Otford Solar System Model
Otford Society is proud to re-launch its Solar System Model. Initially launched in 2001 by local resident David Thomas as a millennium project, the model was unveiled as a way to help people visualise the vastness of space. Now, in 2025, after years of wear and tear, the beloved landmark has been given a modern revival, thanks to a coordinated community effort led by The Otford Society. Otford’s model is one of the largest in the World.
The 25th anniversary relaunch brought the model into the modern age. Each planet pillar now includes a QR code linking to child-friendly videos full of fascinating facts and stunning NASA footage. Navigation is easier than ever with the addition of what3words coordinates, helping visitors follow the route across the village with precision. Brand new guided walks from Otford Station and the Recreation Ground car park can also be found on the Otford Society’s website.
