It's time for Science Week!

‘Time for Science’ – a fitting slogan for St Michael's 2024 Science Week as we embraced this year’s theme of Time!

Across the Prep school, children in Years 3 to 8 embraced a range of exciting experiments designed to further the children's enjoyment and fascination of Science.

Year 3 pupils created an array of colourful climbing bugs and measured how quickly they scaled a length of string.

Year 4 were challenged to design and make their own ‘cosy cups’ and keep water warm for at least 10 minutes.

In Year 5, the race was on to build the perfect landing craft to get a ripe tomato to the ground without splitting or splatting! Parachutes and balloons were popular solutions to slow down their descent from St Michael's Sports Hall viewing gallery.

Year 6 investigated pendulums: could they create a device which swung backwards and forwards ten times in exactly ten seconds? There were some impressively accurate responses.

Balloon powered vehicles raced across the lab floor as Years 7 and 8 competed in their own Science Week challenge. Congratulations to team ‘Helen Wheel’ (Lucy, Hannah & Matilda) for building the car which travelled the furthest and to Eliza and ‘Tiny Torpedo’ – the nippiest vehicle on four wheels!

A brilliant week had by all!
