Foodbank donation

St Michael’s Prep School in Otford has donated over 750kg of food and toiletries to local food banks following their recent Harvest Festival events.

Donated by families across the school, the contributions, ranging from baked beans to washing detergent, will be used to help families in both Sevenoaks and Swanley this winter.

Responding to St Michael’s donation, one of the recipient food banks, Trussell Trust Swanley, said: “A massive thank you to all of your staff, pupils and their families. What an amazing Harvest you gave to the Swanley and District Foodbank. Your brilliant contribution came to a whopping 747.25kg. the most received from any donation. This has really helped fill our shelfs as before they was looking rather bare. Some of this has already gone out to families that are in need, providing food, washing items and personal hygiene.”

As well as donating to the Trussell Trust, St Michael’s also gave 10 bags of essentials to Sevenoaks food bank Loaves and Fishes which is based at The Church of St John The Baptist.

Commenting on St Michael’s efforts, Head Mr Nik Pears said: “Thank you so much to everyone who gave food and toiletries to our collection for Swanley’s Trussell Trust foodbank and Sevenoaks’ Loaves and Fishes foodbank; we have been overwhelmed by your generous contributions and know they will be very gratefully received by families across our community.”
