On an extremely wet Thursday morning the U11 netball team set off for the annual IAPS netball tournament at Kent College. We were flooded with relief when we arrived to find out it had been moved indoors to their sports halls!
The girls had a tough group and had a very rusty start to the tournament. They lost their first three matches consecutively to Royal Russell, Walthamstow Hall and Ashford Prep. However they picked up their game considerably, playing much more cohesively and were determined to win their final group match and make the plate draw. They beat Vinehall 5-4!
They then went on to win their next two matches against Bromley High (6-1) and Downsend (6-3). This meant they then faced Royal Russell again in the final – they had lost to them 4-8 in the group stage but the team had really come together over the day and we were hopeful. The match went into extra time after a 6-6 draw and was then 7-7 at the end of extra time which meant it went to a golden goal. Royal Russell delivered the winning goal in what was a highly charged and exciting final few minutes.
The girls showed outstanding determination and tenacity and thoroughly deserved their runners up medals.
