Pupils at St Michael’s Prep School recently enjoyed a fascinating and memorable visit from Kent Search and Rescue and Kent Police, gaining a valuable insight into the vital work carried out to keep local communities safe.
During the visit, children had the opportunity to meet dedicated search and rescue volunteers, explore specialist rescue vehicles and equipment, and learn about the teamwork, skill and commitment involved in locating missing people. The interactive experience brought real-life learning to life, helping pupils develop a greater understanding of the important role emergency services and volunteers play within the community.
One of the highlights of the morning was meeting a rescue dog and discovering how highly trained search dogs assist teams during search and rescue operations. Pupils were captivated, learning about the dogs’ abilities and the crucial part they play in helping to find vulnerable and missing people.
As part of the event, the school was also delighted to support Kent Search and Rescue through a fundraising initiative. Pupils and staff wore red in support of the charity, raising an impressive £849.84 to help the organisation continue its invaluable work across the county.
Nik Pears, Head of St Michael’s Prep School said: “We are incredibly grateful to Kent Search and Rescue and Kent Police for taking the time to visit us. The children were thoroughly engaged throughout the morning and gained a real appreciation for the dedication, teamwork and expertise required in search and rescue operations. We were also delighted to raise funds for such a worthwhile cause and support the remarkable work they do within our community.”
