On Thursday 30th April, St Michael's Prep School's Adam (Year 7) became the school's first pupil to compete at the IAPS National Golf Championships, held at the stunning Minchinhampton Golf Course in Stroud, Gloucestershire.

The sun was blazing, the course was looking magnificent and over 200 young golfers arrived ready to take on a seriously tough challenge at a British Open qualifying course. Despite a few nerves, Adam showed brilliant focus and composure throughout the day.

The front nine were a rollercoaster but it was fantastic to see Adam grow in confidence as the round went on. He absolutely stormed the back nine, shooting an impressive 43 and finishing with a superb round of 94.

The tournament used the Stableford handicap system, giving golfers of all abilities a fair shot and Adam finished in a fantastic and well‑deserved 8th place in the U12 category; a brilliant achievement.

Commenting on Adam's success, Director of Sport at St Michael's Prep School, Steve Brightman said: "Huge congratulations, Adam. We are incredibly proud of you. You represented the school beautifully with politeness, determination and smiling all the way round. Hopefully this is just the beginning of more St Michael’s golfers following in your footsteps."
