Author visit collage

On Wednesday 22nd April St Michael's were delighted to welcome local children’s author Megan Hopkins for an inspiring visit. Megan, who wrote the Starminster series, spoke to children in Years 3 to 6 about her writing life and creative inspiration.

During her author talk, Megan explained that the special ability of her main character, Astrid, to fly was inspired by her own love of birds. To bring this idea to life, she brought in a fascinating collection of feathers from many different kinds of birds, which the children were able to look at and carefully pass around. Megan also treated everyone to an exciting extract from the first Starminster book and showed the children how the book cover design evolved.

At breaktime, Megan signed copies of her books and answered many questions from our enthusiastic and inquisitive readers.
