Many St Michael’s children participated in the Tunbridge Wells Arts Festival over the weekend of Saturday 7th and Sunday 8th March at Kent College, Pembury.
A recently formed recorder quartet (Ellie S, Amelia I, Zihao G and Jessica C) in the Trio/Quartet Class and the Recorder Consort in the Recorder Ensemble Class (Martha S, Alexandra O, Jessica C, Zihao G, Amelia I and Ellie S) both won well-deserved first place.
There were also some great individual results with the following children winning trophies; Juliet E (Mini Musician), Emma U (Novice Piano Duet with Teacher Year 3 & Under), Martha S (Wind/Brass Solo Grade 2-3), Ellie S (Wind/Brass Solo Grade 2-3) and Hattie R (Dramatic Solo Yr 3-4).
We are especially proud of our youngest representatives from Pre-Prep; Emma U, Theo A and Juliet E. Juliet performed on her recorder with some vocals. Her recorder playing was confident and assured and she went on to win the Woodwind Mini Musician Class (Yr 2 & under) where she received an Easter egg and medal. She then went on to win the overall Mini Musician Cup, gaining the highest mark out of the Piano, Wind, Strings & Vocal classes.
Emma and Theo were both in the Novice Piano Duet with Teacher Year 3 and Under class. This class was split into two halves due to the number of entries. Emma won her class and Theo came 2nd in his class. Emma got the highest mark out of both classes so won the cup.
We are also very proud of Theia H who won the Junior Vocal Recital Cup and was chosen to sing at the GEMS Prize Winners’ Concert held at Trinity Theatre, Tunbridge Wells last Sunday 15th March. She sang Popular from the musical Wicked. It was wonderful to see her confidence and talent as she took to the stage to perform.
We are delighted to announce that Martha S was presented with a special festival award: The Robert Goulden-Stace Cup for the most promising Recorder Player.
At the GEMS Concert last Sunday, the Mayor of Tunbridge Wells presented Martha and Theia with their trophies, whilst Martha S and Alexandra O also received the Recorder Quartet & Recorder Ensemble's trophies on behalf of the rest of the groups.
