Prep Drama

Back

St Michael’s Prep Drama lessons introduce pupils to the exciting world of theatre.

Led by our engaging Head of Drama Mr Powell, Drama lessons encourage the children to question, explore and tease out new ideas, ways of living and thinking.

St Michael’s Prep Drama is not about being the best performer or the next Hollywood star, it is about creating, making, exploring and responding in the search for our true selves as well as meaningful connections with the world around us.

We endeavour to equip our pupils with skills to explore the subject in their future schooling without losing sight of its value for their development.

Outside of the classroom, Drama enthusiasts can enter our annual House Drama Duologue Competition which includes Junior and Senior categories. This event is judged by a visiting professional in the industry and entrants work independently to devise a performance, costumes and props based on a script of their choice.

Drama Scholarships are available to pupils in Years 7 and 8. St Michael’s Prep Drama Scholars enjoy in-depth opportunities to engage in all aspects of drama such as operating sound and lights for events and attending trips to theatres where they meet and learn from professionals in the industry.

All Prep pupils enjoy visits to local productions as well as further afield including opportunities for friends and family to join. The children also have an opportunity to be involved in St Michael’s Prep’s annual school plays. These alternate on a 3-year basis between a large-scale production (often a musical) and two more moderately-sized plays. These are offered to selected year groups, subject to audition and usually alternate between and comedy and straight drama.
