The Parents & Friends Association is a body of parents who volunteer their time to organise functions for the parents, children and staff of the school. This enables us to buy additional, often valuable, items for our children at the school. It is run by a Chairperson (or two) , Deputy, Secretary and Treasurer who are all current parents of the school. In addition, there is a large and enthusiastic committee who give their time and support by attending meetings and helping to organise the variety of P & F events throughout the year. Some of the activities organised are fund raisers and others are a chance for parents, teachers and children to socialise. These P & F events play an integral part in cementing the community feel we have at St Michael’s Prep.
We currently run a Quiz Evening at the beginning of the school year which is a great way to encourage new parents to meet current parents in an informal setting. We also organise a Summer Ball which is held every other year with a Summer Fair or Circus or alternative in the intervening years. We hold an annual Christmas Bazaar and a very successful Comedy Evening as well as enjoying regular badminton sessions, click here to see how to join us on the courts. We also support various charities. In the past few years we have donated funds to Demelza House, Breakthrough Breast Cancer, The Royal Marsden, Diabetes UK and Teenage Cancer Trust.
With the funds raised, we are able to purchase equipment for various school departments. Recently we contributed a substantial amount to help furnish Kindergarten and Nursery in the new Pre-Prep building. We have also bought Apple Computers for the Art and Music Department, chess sets, dual language books, several items for the Science Department, sports equipment, ride-on toys for Pre-Prep and an amazing Adventure Playground designed and installed on the field. We also hold an Easter Egg Hunt for the Pre-Prep children and contribute towards end of year parties.
The P & F is about parents working together to build relationships with the school and add value to our children’s experiences at St Michael’s. We are always happy to welcome new ideas and new members to the Committee or simply to have a new pair of hands from our parent body.
