A Word From Mrs Aisher
We were so proud last week that our U11 girls’ hockey team came fifth in the national IAPS finals. It was a hard fought day by a brilliant team who until Friday, have only ever lost one match in two years! Congratulations to all the girls for their talent, team work and tenacity. We’re delighted with what you achieved.
Just a reminder to parents that permission for absence should be requested in writing in advance of the day from me. The absence request form is designed to simplify the process by giving clear categories for which permission will be given, and is available in both offices and downloadable here https://www.stmichaels.kent.sch.uk/wp-content/uploads/2016/06/Pupil-absence-form.pdf
We are receiving an increasing number of emails addressed simply to form teachers informing us of absence rather than requesting it. Children are required by law to attend school every day of term unless released with permission and Inspectors look closely at the management of absence as an indicator of a well-run school.
We need your help to make this work.
Please note that we do not expect absence in term time for any reason other than those listed on the form.
Year 6 Senior School interviews
It is interview and test time for future schools. We are aware of the dates of the exams for each school and who will be sitting them, but we are not informed, other than by parents, of interview dates. We aim to give each child in Years 6, 7 and 8 a one-to-one practice in addition to the workshop training they have in Year 6 PSHE; to this end, please provide us with as much notice as possible of an absence request for interview so that we can make sure their practice takes place.
New website and sports app
We have been delighted that our new website is proving popular and that the sports app is making life simpler. Inevitably there have been a few teething problems, so please do let us know about those so we can iron out difficulties . Thanks to Jane Thornton, and Karen Voce who have been liaising with our developers and to the parents who tested the website before it launched.
We look forward to adding further functionality next year and sharing our plans when we’re through the next round of testing!
