The Trinity term is always special. Long summer days, hot weather, lots of exciting events, sport, competition music, tests.
It’s been good to see many of you since our return from the most incredible music tour to Venice. To glimpse and taste and see and hear what we did, do follow me on Twitter and look at the posts we made over our stunning six days in what is perhaps the most beautiful city in the world.
Grazie to Gordon and Darryl for masterminding the whole thing and to the brilliant and talented team who staffed this trip. The children appreciated the beauty of Venice, its extraordinary atmosphere and the possibilities for art, learning and teamwork. In a week which contained a trip to the opera, to two art galleries, attendance at a performance of the Four Seasons, by Vivaldi, walking tours through alleyways, over bridges and through busy piazzas, we managed to hold onto all our pupils and inspire them to perhaps the best performance I have witnessed at St Michael’s.
It is difficult to do justice to just how special the concert was and I recommend you to hear some of the short clips posted on Twitter to understand the full range of excellence which was showcased. Congratulations to the whole group of pupils who made the trip fun, positive, easy and immensely pleasurable. And many thanks indeed to Gordon, Darryl, Emily, Matt, Jack, Jackie, Sally, Anneka, and Rob. Dream team.
Our new homework challenges were launched this week with great excitement and we are busy preparing for all the other delights of this term. If you have not yet downloaded the calendar from the website, please do this and sync it with your own.
We were very sorry to hear of the death of our former colleague, Terri Hawkins, who had to endure several years of cancer treatment, which she faced with incredible dignity, bravery and good humour. She looked so good at our Christmas party in 2016, enjoying the opportunity to re-connect with her colleagues and she was quite the life and soul of the party. We hold her, her husband Steve and their family in our prayers.
Some of our staff will be attending her funeral in due course. Please speak to Zerrin Leech if you would like more details.
Despite this sadness, I hope you all have a good weekend.
