St Michael’s school is a non-selective coeducational school promoting a rich, varied, broad and balanced education within a Christian context. We challenge and stimulate pupils to achieve their best and strive for excellence in all that they do; fostering in them a sense of wonder, and joy in learning, so that they take real pride in their accomplishments. Children are helped to understand themselves as individuals, their feelings and emotions, how they can affect others and to show tolerance and respect for the diversity of the world in which we live.
Culturally the school provides a wide sporting, musical, artistic and dramatic programme to which all pupils are equally entitled and in which all children are encouraged to participate.
We recognise that every child is an individual and aim to promote their happiness, self-confidence and well-being as members of a caring community. Children are given opportunities to make a difference to their school and to the wider world. The school motto; perseverance, wisdom, gratitude encapsulates the cornerstones of this education.
Through perseverance children learn to win and lose gracefully, overcome difficulties and gain resilience. As their knowledge grows, the school teaches children to have the wisdom to use this knowledge well and to be grateful for all the blessings they receive in life and in their education.
From good fortune springs a responsibility to care for others and in this caring, through charitable work, the Christian commitment to love one another is translated into action.
St Michael’s Values, Vision and Development
St Michael’s is driven by a passionate belief in the value and power of learning, for children, for teachers, for parents and for everyone who comes into contact with us. We are curious, creative, supportive, inclusive and welcoming and believe that everyone should be given the opportunity to reach their full potential. We have a strong sense of our place in the community, whether that is the local, national or international community, the teaching profession or the broad family of everyone who has passed through St Michaels’ and believe in giving back to these communities wherever and whenever we can. We want to make the best possible use of our glorious site in Otford and extend what we do for each community we sit within, sharing our gifts, our opportunities, our passion, our excellence and our joy in learning.
